September is California Wine Month. All month, almost every winery in the state will be celebrating the remarkable story of wine in California. In SLO County, the number of wineries has increased from just 5 to almost 200 in only 30 years. The county is now the 3rd largest wine producer in California after only Napa and Sonoma Counties.
A Harvest Wine Tour. Almost every winery in the Paso Robles AVA will be participating in this annual harvest event. This year it will be October 20 through 22, and many wineries will hold special events of their own to go with the larger ones in Paso. Call 805-239-8463 for more info.
Open Studios Tour : For two weekends, October 14-15 and October 21-22 you can drive (or better yet, be driven) around SLO county at the most beautiful time of year to visit the artists in their own studios. See the art; see how it's made; talk to the artist about it. North county studios the 14th and 15th; south county the 21st and 22nd. Western Art & Trappings: November 4 and 5, 10 to 4, in the Pioneer Museum in Paso Robles. Annual show features saddle makers, western crafts, artists and collectibles. A peak event in Paso Robles every year. Call 805-239-4556 for info.
Cayucos Wine & Food Festival: November 10 and 11. Local restaurants and 12 of the best wineries in Paso Robles area provide outstanding wine and food pairings for your tasting pleasure. Takes place in the classic beach town of Cayucos, right on oceanside Highway 1.
Hearst Castle Decorated Tours: December 1 - 31. Once a year, the staff at the Castle decorate the halls of Hearst Castle, and it is a light and tree show to behold. Traffic is high for this event, so call to reserve if you want a choice about when you can take the tour: 805-444-4445.
